Free VisualBasic programs and code, mostly for the Internet. Includes bing (a tiny app that keeps dialup line active by pining an IP address), fnc (a file-name changer), im_h (a utility which builds a html page for each gif or jpeg in a chosen folder of your hard drive), logorand (a utility for managing Windows 9x logos), t2h (a light program to convert files from TXT format to HTML), v (a light image viewer), and more. |

im_h is a program which can create HTML pages of images for off-line viewing or which can be posted on-line so they can be viewed by others. Specify the directory, specify how you want your image displayed, and this handy program will create a series of HTML pages, one page per image with links between them. Not so easy to explain but easy to use and very useful. The big problem with programs like this is that they rely on a Web browser for the viewer, and Web browsers have a limited number of file formats they can handle (commonly GIF and JPG) so the program will only create HTML pages for those images. With that limitation in mind, im_h (funny name!) does a great job and offers an excellent array of options. Install sizes vary greatly dependent on the inclusion of VB5 runtime files. If you have them, opt for one of the smaller downloads. |

I'll bet you know an awful lot, but did you know that you can create an HTML page out of a JPG or GIF file? Sure you can, and all you have to use is this converter. Perfect for when you want to test background images for your Web pages (or you want to see how well an image tiles across your screen). With the color sliders and data options visible up front, you'll have something whipped up in no time at all. This is also a great way to see which color schemes will work best with a photo or graphic before you upload your HTML document to the Web. "Pages can be linked to each other in the folder". |

This is a simple utility to change the Windows' startup/shutdown screens. Select your image (it must be a BMP file in the format of 320x400x256 and equaling 127kB) and the program will not only display it correctly, but also create the appropriate 'logo' file – startup, wait or shutdown. The program includes with it an HTML file which gives excellent instructions on creating startup/shutdown screens, and also how to use the program. The author's Website also offers a selection of startup/shutdown logos which you can download separately (currently two archives totaling 1.4MB and comprising 21 screens). If you like to change logos then this is one of the easiest ways we have seen. |

t2h |

t2h is a small utility which converts ASCII text documents into HTML documents for viewing through a Web browser. It features: single or bulk conversions (all the TXT files in a folder); optionally adds "t2h_" to a converted document's filename; plus choice of font & size. This is a super fast tool which converted a 10MB text file within 15 seconds! Smaller files are converted virtually instantaneously. t2h adds a line of text to the bottom of the document stating that it has been converted using this tool but that is the only change it makes. The program allows you to select any font on your system but this could be a trap for anyone who planned on posting a converted file on-line -- there is no guarantee that the person viewing it would have that particular font. We suggest that only Microsoft core fonts are used on the Internet so that documents are viewed as closely as possible to how they were created. It is almost impossible to fault t2h because it does what it does so well. It has no install problems because you simply unzip the archive and use the file. t2h is terrific, get it! |

Yes, the name of this program really is v! It is a file viewer for RT, BMP, CUR, CUT, DIB, EMF, GEM, GIF, HRZ, ICO, IFF, IMG, JPG, JPEG, LBM, MAC, MSP, PBM, PCX, PGM, PIC, PNG, PNM, PPM, RAS, RLE, BMP, TGA, TIF, TIFF, WMF and WPG files. It displays animated GIFs and can recognize transparent colors. v offers a background testing facility and will create a HTML page for each image file and also create a directory structure to access them. There are lots of minor controls and functions associated with this program and the whole package is quite well presented. On the left hand side of the screen is an Explorer-style file display which shows the folders on the top section and the files within that folder below. Highlight a supported image file and the image will be displayed in the main window. Probably the thing we like least about the program is its name! |
